What is Peptide Reconstitution?
Peptide reconstitution is the process of mixing lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide powder with bacteriostatic water to create an injectable solution. This is a critical step that must be done correctly to preserve the peptide's integrity and effectiveness.
What You'll Need
- Bacteriostatic Water (BAC water) - Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative
- Insulin syringes - Typically 29-31 gauge for accurate measurement
- Alcohol swabs - For sterilizing vial tops
- Your lyophilized peptide vial
Step-by-Step Reconstitution Process
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Clean your workspace thoroughly. Wash your hands with soap and water. Gather all supplies before beginning.
Step 2: Determine Water Amount
Use our peptide calculator to determine exactly how much bacteriostatic water to add based on your desired concentration.
Common reconstitution examples:
- 5mg vial + 2mL BAC water = 2.5mg/mL (250mcg per 0.1mL)
- 10mg vial + 2mL BAC water = 5mg/mL (500mcg per 0.1mL)
- 5mg vial + 1mL BAC water = 5mg/mL (500mcg per 0.1mL)
Step 3: Clean the Vial Tops
Wipe the rubber stopper of both the peptide vial and BAC water vial with an alcohol swab. Allow to dry for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Draw the Bacteriostatic Water
Using an insulin syringe, draw the calculated amount of bacteriostatic water from its vial.
Step 5: Add Water to Peptide Vial
CRITICAL: Do NOT spray the water directly onto the powder. Instead, angle the syringe and let the water run slowly down the inside wall of the vial. This prevents damaging the peptide structure.
Step 6: Allow to Dissolve
Let the vial sit for 5-10 minutes. You can gently roll the vial between your palms, but never shake it - shaking can denature the peptide and reduce its effectiveness.
Step 7: Storage
Once reconstituted, store your peptide in the refrigerator (36-46°F / 2-8°C). Most reconstituted peptides remain stable for 28-30 days when properly stored.
Common Reconstitution Mistakes to Avoid
- ❌ Spraying water directly onto the powder
- ❌ Shaking the vial vigorously
- ❌ Using sterile water instead of bacteriostatic water
- ❌ Storing at room temperature after reconstitution
- ❌ Reusing syringes
Bacteriostatic Water vs Sterile Water
Always use bacteriostatic water for peptides that will be used over multiple days. The benzyl alcohol preservative prevents bacterial growth. Sterile water has no preservative and should only be used for single-use applications.
