Subcutaneous Injection Guide: How to Inject Peptides Safely

Complete guide to subcutaneous injections for peptides. Learn proper technique, best injection sites, site rotation, and tips for minimizing discomfort.

What is a Subcutaneous Injection?

A subcutaneous (subQ) injection delivers medication into the fatty tissue layer between the skin and muscle. This is the most common method for administering peptides at home.

Why Subcutaneous for Peptides?

  • Slower, more consistent absorption than intramuscular
  • Less painful than intramuscular injections
  • Easy to self-administer
  • Suitable for most peptides

Best Injection Sites

Abdomen (Most Common)

The area around the belly button (avoiding 2 inches around the navel) is ideal because:

  • Easy to access
  • Good fatty tissue layer
  • Consistent absorption

Thighs

The front or outer thigh, about 4 inches above the knee to 4 inches below the hip:

  • Good alternative to abdomen
  • Easy to see and reach
  • Larger injection area

Upper Arms

The back of the upper arm (triceps area):

  • May require assistance
  • Good for rotation

Step-by-Step Injection Process

Step 1: Prepare

  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap
  • Gather supplies: syringe, alcohol swabs, peptide vial
  • Ensure proper lighting

Step 2: Draw the Peptide

  • Clean the vial top with alcohol
  • Draw the correct number of units
  • Remove air bubbles by tapping the syringe

Step 3: Prepare the Injection Site

  • Clean the site with an alcohol swab
  • Let it dry completely (30 seconds)
  • Pinch the skin to create a fold

Step 4: Inject

  • Insert the needle at a 45-90 degree angle
  • Release the pinched skin
  • Inject slowly and steadily
  • Wait 5-10 seconds before removing

Step 5: After Care

  • Apply light pressure with gauze if needed
  • Do not rub the injection site
  • Dispose of needle properly in sharps container

Injection Site Rotation

Rotate your injection sites to prevent:

  • Lipohypertrophy (fatty lumps)
  • Bruising
  • Scar tissue buildup

Use our Injection Site Tracker to log and rotate your sites.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • ❌ Injecting into muscle (too deep)
  • ❌ Not rotating injection sites
  • ❌ Reusing needles
  • ❌ Injecting through wet alcohol (stings)
  • ❌ Injecting cold peptide (let it warm slightly)

Minimizing Discomfort

  • Let peptide reach room temperature before injecting
  • Use a new needle for each injection
  • Inject slowly
  • Try numbing the area with ice beforehand
