LL-37
A natural antimicrobial peptide studied for stubborn infection and biofilm.
What it is
LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin, a defence peptide the immune system produces at barrier surfaces such as skin and gut.
How it works
It disrupts bacterial membranes directly, breaks down biofilm, and signals immune cells to the area. Vitamin D status influences how much the body makes naturally.
What it is researched for
- Chronic and biofilm infections
- Wound healing
- Gut barrier research
Research status
Preclinical and early research. No approved product.
What to watch for
- Strong injection site reactions are common
- Herxheimer style reactions reported when addressing chronic infection
- Autoimmune caution given the inflammatory activity
Storage
Lyophilised powder keeps in the freezer or fridge, away from light. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, keep it refrigerated and use it within about four weeks.
Common questions
Why do injections sting?
LL-37 is a membrane active peptide. Local irritation is the most reported complaint.
Does vitamin D matter?
Natural production depends on vitamin D status, which is why testing it is usually the first step.
